Just wanted to give you a little feedback on my thoughts on being your mentee/protégé.

I know I could never have made it as far as I have without your leadership, vision, guidance and motivation. I say this as a retired military man who has taught and written about all of those things. What I hoped for in a mentor was someone who had the vision of where to go, how to get there and compassion for the limitations someone may have. Those qualities were identified as the basic leadership characteristics, and you have them in spades.

When I first started with you, you let me know what I needed to do first and then the follow-on activities and what would happen if I did; I can tell you, you were right on the money every time. It was kind of funny looking back at it how naive I was regarding what it would take to get things started, and after listening to Ron’s tapes and attending his seminar, I had scattered thoughts on “how” to proceed. You were able to focus me and keep my eye on the correct path for moving ahead, and for that I cannot thank you enough.

Finally, I place compassion and motivation together because there were times when things were not happening at the pace I had hoped for, and you always understood, gave me assurance in the right way and instilled the desire to keep going when I did not have it inside myself. I think you have a fabulous ability to understand and do the right thing for the person you are dealing with, and for that I am thankful to God.

I just wanted to send you a quick note of thanks for being all that you have been for me, and you would have been an inspiration to any Marine I ever served with.
